The project is located in Elgeyo Marakwet County,
This provides adequate water and sufficient head to generate 60MW and irrigate 2500 ha of land.
Developing the multipurpose project will provide improved food security and improved livelihoods of the communities.

The region has enormous potential for hydro-power generation as demonstrated by the numerous rivers in the region.
The project will contribute towards alleviating electricity supply deficit in the country, improve food security and will guarantee supply of water for industrial, domestic and irrigation.
The main objectives of the project are:
i. To generate 60MW of HEP
ii. To expand land under irrigation by an additional 2,500ha to support food
security.
iii. To provide water for 50,000 household and livestock for consumption
iv. To undertake conservation programmes by planting 2 million assorted
trees annually to support conservation of Cherangany hills within 18,500
ha.
